Enabling Activities Portfolio
The UNEP GEF Climate Change Mitigation Unit is currently supporting over eighty (80) developing countries to prepare their periodic National Communication (NC) and Biennial Update Reports (BUR) to meet their reporting obligations under the UNFCCC. It is also supporting countries transition to Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR) which will replace the Biennial Update Reports by 2024 under the new Enhanced Transparency Framework in the Paris Agreement.
The Mitigation team provides technical support to the national governments to develop funding proposals to access GEF funding and upon receipt, we work closely with the executing ministries to enhance their institutional capabilities to prepare their periodic reports to the UNFCCC.
Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency
UNEP is currently supporting 101 countries in climate national reporting and strengthening institutional and technical capacities through the Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency.
