TEEBAgriFood Country Implementation

In Nature Action

The TEEBAgriFood project, launched in January 2017, works on sustainable food systems transformation by supporting the valuation of ecosystem services and biodiversity and their integration into policymaking at all levels.

The project is currently in its third phase, funded by the IKEA Foundation, with a focus on Organic farming and agroforestry in Assam, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand as well as Watershed Management in Kenya.

The first phase, until June 2022, aimed to catalyze policy reforms in the agricultural landscapes of Colombia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Thailand, focusing on making the economic value of biodiversity and ecosystem services visible. Through activities like initial scoping studies, data review, scenario analysis, and capacity building, it sought to inform agricultural land-use decisions and policy reforms.

In its second phase, from January 2019 to December 2023, the project covered Brazil (Low Carbon Agriculture and Urban and Periurban Agriculture), China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, and Thailand to promote sustainable food systems that safeguard biodiversity and ecosystem services. This phase involved documenting changes, mapping policies, refining pilot projects, engaging businesses, and implementing a roadmap for sustainable change. The country studies within this project illustrate the practical approaches and achievements in enhancing sustainability in the agri-food sector globally.
